About Us

Our Story

Blind Globetrotters was born from a simple truth: losing sight doesn’t mean losing the world. As a visually impaired traveller, I’ve faced the frustrations, barriers, and moments of doubt that come with navigating airports, cities, and everyday life without complete vision. But I’ve also discovered that travel can still be enriching, empowering, and deeply meaningful — with the right tools, support, and mindset.

This website started as a personal blog about my journeys. Over time, it’s grown into a resource hub for blind and low-vision travellers worldwide, and a platform for dialogue with the travel industry, policymakers, and fellow explorers.

We believe that accessible travel is responsible travel.

Our mission is to:

  • Provide practical tools for navigating travel and daily life without sight.
  • Share lived experience stories to support those adjusting to sight loss.
  • Encourage the travel industry to move beyond accessibility “signalling” toward genuine inclusion.
  • Build awareness that responsible tourism must include disabled travellers.

Blind Globetrotters is structured around three pillars:

  • Tech & Accessibility → Guides to screen readers, apps, smart canes, and AI tools that help blind travellers stay independent.
  • Travel & Navigation → Rights-based guides for airlines, rail, ferries, and local transport — plus destination insights with accessibility tips.
  • Transition & Adjustment → Resources for living with sight loss, from medical explainers to emotional support, identity, and relationships.

We also share community stories, opinion pieces, and humour — because travel, and life, should include laughter too.

My background is in sustainability, governance, and environmental impact assessment. After losing my sight, I channelled that expertise into understanding how tourism, disability, and responsibility intersect.

As both a professional and a traveller, I bring together:

  • First-hand lived experience of blindness and accessible travel.
  • Knowledge of the slow and often traumatic adaptation to disability
  • Research and advocacy on responsible tourism.
  • A belief that disability inclusion must be part of sustainability in travel.

When I’m not writing or researching, you’ll often find me travelling solo or independently, exploring destinations that are both inspiring and challenging.
